Probably a lot of you will have seen these two before. They're new to me, and they're both so good I can't help but post them. They're mostly about the Trio, but have a lot of supporting actors in them as well. I like how both of them have caught the passing of time using clips from all the movies, as well as the message of the lyrics.
The first one especially struck me as just incredibly well done. The lyrics are serious in both songs, but again, the first video really touches me, and I feel the interpretation is simply wonderful. Made me cry. Definitely made me cry.

Your result for The Sorting Hat: A Comprehensive Harry Potter Personality Assessment [Test/Quiz]...
46% Ravenclaw, 65% Hufflepuff, 38% Slytherin and 53% Gryffindor!
You might belong in Hufflepuff,
The cardinal traits of Hufflepuff are loyalty, patience, kindness and hardworking. They are generally extroverted but not as socially ambitious as Gryffindors—they enjoy being around other people but do not require being in the limelight. Hufflepuffs place cooperation above conflict; they are also more emotionally balanced than some of the other houses. Unlike gryffindors, they do not have hot-tempers and are not as likely to become offended by criticism. Hufflepuffs are loyal to their beliefs and to their friends; once they've established roots, they stick with them. It takes a lot to convince them to change their worldviews. Although Gryffindors also exhibit loyalty, if their pride is hurt or their principles violated, Gryffindors will leave (whereas a Hufflepuff has stronger ties).Hufflepuffs are much more steady and easygoing than the other Houses. They work hard, are very down to earth and not prone to flights of fancy. In contrast, the other houses are much more likely to be erratic in their behavior, especially Slytherins and Gryffindors due to emotional instability. Although Ravenclaws may also be hardworking and patient at times, they are more likely to be swept away by a new idea and abandon projects than a Hufflepuff would. There is another side to the Hufflepuff house, however:
Although some Hufflepuffs may clearly exhibit the traits of the house, others may simply not fall into any other category. Generally speaking, though, if someone doesn't exhibit any of the major personality traits of the other three houses, they most likely would fit the description of a Hufflepuff.

There are 239 films on this list
Put x's next to the films you've seen
Add all the x's up
Note: this meme assumes you are young. There are no old, classic movies on this list. Many are Disney/Pixar. Some movie titles duplicate, or have remakes; this meme does not differentiate if you watched an original versus a remake.

( ) Fight Club
( ) Starsky and Hutch (wait, wasn't this a TV show?)
( ) Neverending Story
(x) Blazing Saddles
( ...rest of the list under the cut...Collapse )
GRAND TOTAL: 71
Well, I don't like horror - the only reason I checked one or two horror titles is because I saw them when I was still with my ex, long ago... I wonder how old this list is, since it only has 1-4 of the Potter films. I've seen a ton of movies that weren't on this list, so could easily bring my total to 100 or 150 with a different list. :)
My question is: is anyone nearby there who can come visit, maybe go out to dinner with, walk the river walk, maybe go to this cool fireworks show I've heard about? What say you all? Any HP peeps wanna hang out???
Note: hanging out time would have to happen before my work meeting, so either the 25th or 26th. I haven't made my travel plans yet, in the great hopes of meeting up with the coolest people on earth! :D
I'm home today, didn't go in to work, sort-of-sick, left over from really-being-sick last weekend. And that leftover sort-of-sick has added to the feeling of somewhat separated from reality that I've been experiencing all day (for the better part of a week, truth be told).
But wait a sec, let me finish reading (re-reading, actually, for the who knows how manyth time) this last chapter of This Time by one of my favorite authors ever, subversa.
My biggest question after reading that story is: why am I not Hermione Granger, in my seventh year of wizarding education, head-over-heels with the "new" exchange student in our year. For, truth be told, I think I am head-over-heels with that student, it's the pesky little thing of it being all in my head... call you Adin, indeed.
The other factors adding to this little bit of unreality are my new pieces of art by two of my favorite artists ever, now two of my favorite new fandom friends, sempraseverus and foxestacado. And here we are getting closer to the truth of the matter: it's because of Misti-con! Going to Misti-con has put a serious crimp in my perception of real vs imagined life!
You know how sometimes you think, "wouldn't it just be great if everyone felt about fandom the way I do, if everyone thought that the best way to spend all day was thinking about my favorite characters, imagining them in new escapades, reading new stories about them, viewing new artwork, dressing up as them, etc?" Well, when you go to con, that suddenly becomes your real life. And with a con experience that is as intimate and all-enveloping as Misti is, can't you see how easy it is to get a little confuzzled as to what's real life and what's fantasy? And wow - it doesn't help matters when I decide to read one of my favorite stories EVER about Severus and Hermione.
Hmmm.... I'm a little torn, to be honest. Not that real life is bad or anything, but I think I might just keep this fantasy feeling going for a bit longer. Maybe I'll sort through my con photos (that link should work if we're FB friends; send me a friend request if we're not and you want to see them), try to decide which ones I'll share here. And either decide on another old favorite story to read or maybe listen to some Cabin Pressure episodes to keep me entertained for the rest of the day.
So how is everyone else doing? :)
Can you FEEL it? Are you ready to DANCE around it?!?
Lift your HANDS UP - show T your SUPPORT!!!

Like a lot of you, I signed up for Pottermore as soon as I could. And, again like a lot of you, played around with it for a couple of weeks and then stopped.
I'm not all that interested in slogging through the games and images so much, but am Very Interested in the bits of additional backstory that have been released in Pottermore.
Does anyone know if there is an easy way to access that information (McGonnagall's history, etc), or if any websites are capturing and archiving it for the lazy sods among us?
Any assistance would be very appreciated! Thanks!
ETA: Solved!! Thank you drinkingcocoa for turning me on to PottermoreSpoilers! Yay!

HERE ARE YOUR DAMN CANDLES!!
What's that? It's only one? It's not big enough?
Uh huh, yep, okay, lemme see...
...okay, just one more to say once again... I LOVE YOU, T!
That was the feeling I had after reading this amazing fic. I'm finding myself at a loss to describe adequately the brilliance in this Mystery Author's depiction of these two people, so I'll just say this:

Author’s Notes: Dear Kelly: I started this with every intention of following your lovely prompt about atmosphere and inventive magic, I really did. I lost most of the “atmosphere” along the way, and I’m afraid the magic isn’t especially inventive. But hey, I managed to avoid your squicks, and since this gift isn’t exchangeable, I hope you enjoy it.

This is, without a doubt, the funniest Snape fanart I've ever seen! And it's by an artist whom I just LOVE (yes, it's by a Mystery Artist, but seriously, if you know her style, it's really no mystery. :) ), who has now delivered another wonderful, wonderful rendition of Severus Snape.
If you're wondering what prompted this hilarious artwork, here's the original prompt made to the signup post.
Now go! Look! Review! :D

Severus checking out Hermione... what on earth is he thinking? :D
About a year and a half ago, I commissioned a piece of art from Thomas Branch. I absolutely love the Severus he drew for me, and decided it would be great to have a Hermione to go with him. So I dug up that email from June 2011, emailed him (why, yes, he is still doing commissions!) and here's the result: a Hermione to go with my Severus, and in fact, Thomas was nice enough to just put them together in the same piece!
If you're interested in his art, check out his Tumblr acct, his Twitter feed, or his DeviantArt account. Tumblr is more recent, but seems to contain only his comic book style characters. I'm including DeviantArt, because he's got a bunch of HP fanart there, even if it's older.
NOTE: This was a commissioned piece. Please do not use this without permission.

The other two chapters give a little back story, and aren't very long. But if you don't want to read them, here's where we are: Draco caught Harry out late one night in Fifth Year and extracted a kiss as payment for not turning him in. It opens up a new horizon for both of them. At the beginning of Sixth Year, Draco again encounters Harry out late, and the two of them have another kiss and a little extra (but only a little). Toward the middle of that year, we learn that there was more than Sectrumsempra that happened between them in Myrtle's bathroon.
Now we are into Seventh Year, however firmly in AU-land, so just ignore what you think happened that year. Harry is at Grimmauld Place for Christmas, and it turns out, so is Draco.

Like most of you, I've been really enjoying the sshg_exchange. There have been some truly excellent fics and art already posted. But they're on hiatus till after the first of the year, and I'm all caught up... so my great friend morethansirius (who is pretty much an expert at finding great fics to read) clued me in to hoggywartyxmas. Now many of you already know about HoggyWarty, but I'm a total newbie, and I'd just like to say I am LOVING it!
I've enjoyed all the fics posted so far this round, but this one, Hopeless, in particular struck me because of such a fabulous treatment of Millicent Bullstrode. As I told the anonymous author in my review, I think this is the best Millie I've seen since 7 Preposterous Things.
So if you, like me, are looking for some reading while the SSHG Exchange is on hiatus, HoggyWarty's the place for you. And there's just a leetle tiny bit of overlap between the two, so it's perfect!
Now snuggle up in your new jammies, put in that new cd, make a cuppa with that new coffee/tea brewer, and sit and enjoy this story!

Author's Notes: miss_morland, I loved your prompt about Augusta and Walburga, and I tried to write something for it. I even got Augusta to attend Walburga's funeral, but then the two of them basically told me to piss off. So I turned to two of your other prompts: "a student's hopeless crush on a teacher" and "two unlikely friends." Millicent raised her hand, and the result is this fic. Hope you enjoy it. (And I hope you don't mind a tiny appearance by Hermione, for the sake of canon.)
My thanks to my ever-helpful beta and to the mod (and Mild-as-Milk Moody) for their endless patience.
Happy Hoggywarty Holidays, everyone.

I just heard the suggestion of a presidential debate drinking game based on how many times Barack Obama mentions 47%. I can't think of an equivalent for Romney, unfortunately.
What say we chat tonight and play that game?
Ground rules would have to be that everyone's opinions are welcome, while we will be tempted to bash the other guy, we have to allow bashing of our guy equally. (All beverages welcome as well! :D)
If you're interested, comment here and spread the word!! If we've got enough folks, I'll get us a chatzy room.
Oh, yeah, also include potential other triggers in your comments.
Woot! Party tonight!
My first ever, way longer than I thought it would be, fic is done and turned in to the mods at 5:38 this morning. I've been doing the Gangnam style happy dance all day. :D
This was a fabulous experience, even though I spent plenty of days thinking I was absolutely crazy for signing up. I hadn't written ANYTHING for the past few years, except for work things and a bit of fun community writing at the DH2 fangirl weekend.
I had tons of help along the way - pokeystar helped get me started, mischievous_t, pyjamapants, apollinav, geminiscorp, and annietalbot all gave me great feedback/alpha work, gingertart britpicked, and annietalbot SPaGged the thing in rocket-time so I could turn it in under the deadline. And the sshg_newbies comm has been a great source of commiseration, encouragement and resources. And the mods - wow - when they heard about my surgery this summer they let me know that they'd understand if I needed an extension, but thankfully, that wasn't necessary. (All that recuperation time at home gave me tons of writing time, actually!)
So THANK YOU to one and all who played a part in helping me do something I could never have accomplished alone!

HOW ELSE CAN I SAY THAT?!?
All this glaring and someone's eyes are going to stay that way. I'm not kidding.
Also, WHAT ON EARTH CAN I TITLE THIS THING?
I'm a big fan of the Steven Segal 3-word title, and so will appreciate any suggestions of __(blank)__ the __(blank)__, where the first blank can be a gerund or verb and the second blank is probably stuck being a noun. No problem if it has nothing to do with my plot.
Seriously, any title will do at this point.
Please help me, please, please, please.
EDIT: Yay! You are all so fabulous. I'm keeping tally here of title suggestions, in case anyone else wants to copy! :D
